A youth has been arrested in Nugegoda on charges of sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that the man was arrested by the Police Children and Women Bureau.
The suspect is a 20-year-old married man who had stayed at the neighboring house of the victim.
He is accused of having brutally molested the underage child, while he had also reportedly videotaped the girl being abused and had published it on social media, the Police spokesman said.
SSP Thalduwa further said that the suspect is being held under a 72-hour detention order and is being questioned over the offence. (NewsWire)
