The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Engineers’ Union has warned of a trade union action without prior notice.

The Union has issued a written warning to Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge.

The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union has claimed that it will launch a trade union action if the Government fails to suspend the agreement over the Yugadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya.

The Union further said the Government’s decision ran counter to the National Energy Policy and violated procurement guidelines under the law and was also a threat to national security.

Meanwhile, CEB Employees’ Union Convener Ranjan Jayalal also warned that trade union action would be taken “soon” and it would be “crippling”.

The CEB Employees’ Union and several other unions from the Petroleum and Ports sectors staged a protest last week against the Kerawalapitiya power plant deal. (NewsWire)
