Chinese organic fertilizer manufacturer Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group Co., Ltd., has sought payment of USD 8 million from the National Plant Quarantine Service.

Sending a Letter of Demand (LOD) to the National Plant Quarantine Service, the Chinese firm has requested that the payment be made within 3 days from the date hereof for the loss and damage caused to it.

Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group Co., Ltd., has claimed that the firm has suffered significant loss and damage amounting to US$ 8 Million.

The Chinese organic fertilizer manufacturer further said it continues to suffer further loss and damage due to loss of reputation and goodwill as well as existing and potential business, due to the negligent conduct of the National Plant Quarantine Service.

The LOD has been sent after Sri Lanka rejected the company’s fertilizers that had tested for the presence of harmful pathogens, not once, but twice in tests carried out by Sri Lanka’s National Plant Quarantine Service.

Sri Lanka had thereafter, announced that a stock of fertilizer from the company which is en route to the country will not be accepted. (NewsWire)
