Female officer appointed as OIC of a police station after 24 years

For the first time in 24 years, a female police officer has been appointed as an Officer is Charge (OIC) of a police station in Sri Lanka.

Chief Inspector Kanchana Samarakoon was appointed as the OIC of the Naalla Police station in Gampaha, which was opened today.

A female police officer was last appointed as an OIC of a police station back in 1997.
