The Government must revert to using the fuel price formula that was proposed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Justice Minister Ali Sabry informed Parliament yesterday.

Addressing the debate on the second reading of Budget 2022, the Minister said it would be beneficial for the country to adopt the fuel price formula which allows fuel prices to fluctuate in line with price fluctuations in the world market.

Stating that all the people including the poor had to pay the tax on fuel ultimately, he said it was not suitable to use public funds to pay the fuel subsidiary.

The Justice Minister pointed out that it was not suitable to use public funds to cover the fuel of those who can afford to use a petrol or diesel car.

He further said that when paying tax ultimately, it is paid from the money of all the people including the poor and that that subsidiary was not suitable. (NewsWire)
