Former and current cricketers from Sri Lanka and Pakistan took to social media to condemn and demand justice for the brutal killing of the Sri Lankan Factory Manager in Pakistan.
Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya was among those who tweeted condemning the barbaric act and demanded justice for Priyantha Diyawadana.
“What happened in Pakistan was very shocking. My deepest sympathies to the family. However, I know that the Pakistani prime minister @ImranKhanPTI will ensure that justice will prevail,” Tweeted Jayasuriya.
The former match referee and World Cup winner Roshan Mahanama also condemned the incident calling it “unacceptable and shocking”.
“I sincerely hope the same spirit will prevail and justice will be served as this is a crucial time where all of us are striving for religious and racial tensions to be eradicated in the world,” Mahanama further said via a tweet.
“Shocking and sickening to hear the barbaric murder of a Srilankan. Those who are responsible should be brought before Justice and punished! No mankind should decide the fate of another #sialkot,” Tweeted Angelo Mathews.
Several former and current Pakistan cricketers too echoed the same views on Twitter, condemning the heinous act.
Former captain Shahid Afridi was one of the first to convey his sympathies as he tweeted a verse from the Quran.
“Whosoever kills a person … it shall be as if he has killed all mankind” -Al Quran [5:32] #Sialkot,” Afridi said.
Senior Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez said that he would call it a “Black Day” for his society.
“Condemning the horrific attack on a factory & shameful incident in Sialkot. As Pakistani, I will call it a black day for our society,” Hafeez tweeted on Friday night.
Shoaib Malik also joined in on condemning the murder. “we are embarrassed” Malik said while conveying condolences to the victim’s family.
“My heartiest condolences, I stand with the family of the deceased & strongly condemn this act of violence. What happened, shouldn’t have happened, we are embarrassed. The culprits should be punished at the earliest… #sialkot,” Tweeted Malik. (NewsWire)
