Gas-related accidents continue: 1 death reported

A woman who had sustained burn injuries in a gas-related explosion has died on Friday (10) while receiving treatment at the Kandy National Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as a 53-year-old mother of four and a resident of the Piduruwella, Devagiriya area in Wilgamuwa.

The gas-related explosion had taken place at the woman’s rented house in the Kundasale area on 1st December while she was cooking breakfast.

The Police said the Government Analyst’s Department has been instructed to hand over a report on the incident.

Meanwhile, a gas-related explosion was reported in the Dimuthugama area in Welimada on Saturday (11), while another similar explosion was reported in the Rilhena area in Pelmadulla last morning.

Several gas-related explosions were also reported in the Trayton estate in Hatton, Sooriyawewa, Viharagala, Walasmulla areas, and Ariyawansha Mawatha in Kantale.

An agent for Litro Gas in the Jayawadanagama area in Thalawathugoda has temporarily suspended the sale of gas cylinders and is currently selling firewood.

The agent has pointed out that he was in possession of the old stocks of gas cylinders which have been recalled by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA). (NewsWire)
