Dollar issue: Sri Lanka to lease 50 lands to investors

The Government has reportedly decided to lease out nearly 50 lands in prominent areas, including in Colombo, to foreign investors for development projects.

According to Ada Derana, Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) have been drawn for five such projects which are estimated to be a total of US$ 6 billion. 

The investment projects include 06 lands on D. R. Wijewardena Mawatha near Beira Lake in Colombo, the plot of land with the old Air Force Headquarters building in Slave Island, and lands in Narahenpita, Orugodawatte, Dematagoda, Thunmulla, and Thalawathugoda.

It also includes lands in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, Bogambara, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Vavuniya, and Anuradhapura areas. 

Foreign investors from China, United Arab Emirates (UAE), India, Malaysia, and Switzerland, as well as local investors, have already shown interest in investing in the projects. (NewsWire)
