Investigation launched into 21-year-old soldier’s death in Rantambe

The Theldeniya Police has launched an investigation into the death of a 21-year-old Army soldier in Rantambe. 

The Police said the soldier had died due to a gunshot injury while serving at the National Cadet Corps Training Center in Rantambe.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the soldier had shot himself with his service weapon.

The Theldeniya Police had been informed of the incident by officers at the National Cadet Corps Training Center. 

The Police have recorded statements from several officers at the training centre on the incident. 

The shooting is reported to have taken place at around 12.30 am today.

The Magisterial inquiry into the death is set to be conducted by the Mahiyanganaya Magistrate. (NewsWire)
