Festive season: Notice from Police for residents of Western Province

The Sri Lanka Police has launched special operations in the Western Province to prevent crime in view of the festive season.

The Police said the special operations will be conducted using roadblocks and mobile patrols. 

Mobile patrols and roadblocks are being used to check people and vehicles on a daily basis to prevent crime during the festive season, they added. 

Thereby, a total of 11,162 vehicles including motorcycles, three-wheelers, cars, and other vehicles, and 15,685 persons were inspected during the operation carried out on Saturday (18).

The Police also arrested 147 suspects on suspicion of smuggling narcotics and illegally imported cigarettes, wanted on warrants, and other crimes, during the special operation.

The Sri Lanka Police has requested residents of the Western Province to remain vigilant of suspicious crimes.

They also called on the public to strictly adhere to the Covid health guidelines during this period. (NewsWire)
