Gas-related accidents: 7 deaths in 2021, Police release analysis report

Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Deshabandhu Tennakoon has submitted a report on gas-related accidents that were reported in 2021.

Addressing a press briefing organized by the President’s office today, he said a total of 847 gas-related accidents have been reported so far in 2021.

He said 797 of the accidents were reported involving the Litro Gas Lanka cylinders, while 50 incidents were reported involving the domestic gas cylinders of Laugfs Gas PLC.

A total of 7 individuals have died and 16 individuals have got injured this year due to gas-related accidents.

According to the Police, only 31 gas-related accidents were reported in 2020.

From the 2.8 million gas cylinders sold in November, only 797 have reported issues, which is 0.02%.
