New Fortress deal: Tour Coordinator who picked up foreigner from airport signs as witness

Nimalka Morahela, a former Director at the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has been revealed as the individual who had signed the Yugadanavi Power Plant deal as a witness.

According to The Morning, Morahela had acted as a tour coordinator who was in charge of picking up the representative of the US company New Fortress Energy (NFE) and transporting him to the location of the agreement signing.

Upon being inquired, she said she was only a tour coordinator and it was her responsibility to pick a Mr. Daniel Knight from the airport and transport him to and back from the agreement signing location.

Morahela further said that upon arriving at the location she was told to sign as a witness, that Mr. Knight was the person who signed the agreement.

When inquired if Knight was known to Morahela on a personal or professional level, she said that all she knew was that his name was Mr. Daniel Knight and nothing more, The morning reported.

It has also been revealed that the controversial Yugadanavi deal had been proposed to the Government of Sri Lanka by New Fortress Energy (NFE) Head of Power Jatila Ranasinghe, who is of Sri Lankan origin.

It was also reported that the deal was mediated by two individuals, one a Board Director at a leading conglomerate in Sri Lanka as well as a former Provincial Council member, and the other, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Chairman M.M.C. Ferdinando. (NewsWire)
