Senior politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of the Rajya Sabha in India Dr. Subramanian Swamy has urged his Government to provide the US$ 10 billion loan offered to Sri Lanka.

Lashing out at his Government for dragging the loan offered to Sri Lanka, Dr. Swamy, who is a close friend of the Rajapaksa family, slammed Indian Government for being influenced by the United States.

He said according to Russia, Indian PM Modi is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping soon, a meeting that has been brokered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Dr. Subramanian Swamy also pointed out that if Indian Ministers under US pressure drag their feet on the loan offered to Sri Lanka, it means India has been sold out.

The senior Indian politician said if India wants an ally for the Indian Ocean for long term then it must give the deferred interest $10 billion loan to the Rajapaksa Government now.

He warned that if the loan is not approved then India will have to face China getting one more junior partner, hinting at Russia.

“Modi govt has failed in so many foreign policy issues. Let not Sri Lanka be another,” he tweeted.

Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa recently visited India to seek financial assistance as the country is grappling with an economic crisis. (NewsWire)
