Several restaurants and eateries across the country have been forced to close down due to a shortage of gas in Sri Lanka.

Owners and employees of the food outlets have claimed that they are unable to operate as a result of the gas shortage.

Meanwhile, the public has also been seen standing in long queues over the last few days in a bid to purchase domestic gas cylinders.

Several areas have reported a severe gas shortage with the public standing in lines for hours outside gas distribution points.

On Saturday (01), the Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Theshara Jayasinghe said it will take around 3 weeks for gas supplies in the county to return to normalcy.

Jayasinghe said that gas cylinder distribution will be done under the new regulations issued for LP gas cylinders on the 20th of December 2021.

He further said that it will take more time for Litro to supply an adequate number of cylinders under these new standards.

The chairman of the other primary gas dealer, Laugfs Gas, W. K. H. Wegapitiya has said that his company is struggling to supply the required number of gas cylinders.

He said this was due to the company not being able to open a Letter of Credit (LC) due to the current foreign currency crisis faced by the country. (NewsWire)
