The Ministry of Energy says it is considering introducing aviation fuel to the local market instead of kerosene if required.

The Daily Mirror reported that the Energy Ministry is contemplating introducing aviation fuel following the increasing demand for kerosene.

Ministry Secretary K. D. R. Olga pointed out that there was no change in the composition of kerosene and aviation fuel.

She said therefore there was no risk of using aviation fuel as a substitute for kerosene.

Stating that aviation fuel had been released to the local market on several occasions earlier, she said this was done when the kerosene requirement could not meet the demand.

Olga further said only colour and odor have to be added in order to convert aviation fuel to kerosene. (NewsWire)
