One person has been injured in a gas-related explosion that was reported at a prominent star hotel in Colombo on Monday (03), The Morning reported.

As per the report, Colpetty Police OIC Duncan Gunawardhana said that a gas leak in the main kitchen has been identified as the cause of the explosion.

Stating that the knob of the gas cylinder had not been closed properly, he said there had been a gas leak and the chef had turned on the stove causing a sudden large flame.

OIC Duncan Gunawardhana further said that only a sudden burst of flame had occurred causing burn injuries to the chef’s legs and not an explosion.

The chef who had sustained burn injuries had been hospitalized for treatment and had been discharged in 24-hours, he added.

The Colpetty Police OIC also stated that upon investigations it was observed that the hotel’s kitchen did not have any windows or air circulation for ventilation. (NewsWire)
