Man arrested for cheating nearly 18 people with Dubai jobs

A suspect has been arrested on charges of having swindled Rs. 2.8 million from people after promising jobs in Dubai. 

The Weligama Police said nearly 18 people had fallen victim to his scam. 

The suspect has been arrested in the Kaduwela area in Polonnaruwa. 

Investigations have revealed that the man, who was born in Weligama, had married a woman from Panadura and now resides in Kaduruwela. 

The father of two had worked as an English tutor in Weligama, Akuressa, Panadura, Kurunegala, Eheliyagoda, and Anuradhapura, while he had also engaged in the gem business. 

He had thereafter carried out a scam promising employment in Dubai and had swindled money from people. 

Eighteen victims have filed complaints with the Weligama Police after which the suspect had been arrested. 

The Weligama Police said the suspect was remanded until 20th January after being produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
