Retirement : Bhanuka Rajapaksa meets Sports Minister

Sri Lanka cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa has met Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa at Temple Trees, this morning.

According to sources, Bhanuka Rajapaksa has had a discussion with Minister Namal Rajapaksa about his decision to retire from international cricket.

Minister Namal Rajapaksa had made a public appeal to Bhanuka Rajapaksa requesting him to reconsider his decision to retire.

In a letter to the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on 03rd January, Bhanuka Rajapaksa informed his decision to retire from international cricket.

He had informed the cricket administration that he will not be able to play cricket with the latest fitness standards introduced by the SLC, especially the skinfold levels.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa said he believes he will not be able to do his power-hitting in case he further brings down his skinfold levels.

Following his announcement, several former cricketers, including Lasith Malinga and several of his fans called on the young cricketer to reconsider his decision.

The outcome of the meeting with the Sports Minister is yet to be revealed, but it is learned that Bhanuka Rajapaksa has agreed to reconsider his decision to retire.

SLPP Municipal councilor Kris Balthazaar who is a mutual friend of both Bhanuka Rajapaksa and the Sports Minister had reportedly arranged the meeting.
