The Ministry of Power has announced that there will be no power cuts today as informed earlier.

The Ministry said the power cuts will not be imposed as the technical fault at the privately-owned Kelanitissa Power Plant has been fixed.

Stating that a generator at the power plant had broken down yesterday causing power outages in several areas, the Ministry said it has now been fixed.

Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) published a proposed power cut schedule yesterday.

The CEB announced that daily one-hour power cuts will take place between 5.30 pm -09.30 pm as per the schedule.

However, the CEB later revised its decision and said there will be no power cuts yesterday, but the power supply was disrupted to several areas.

Earlier today, the CEB announced that there will be scheduled power cuts today, but the Ministry of Power has stated that there will be no power cuts as announced.

Sri Lanka has been facing power outages since December 2021 due to repeated breakdowns in several of its power plants. (NewsWire)
