Young Sri Lanka batsman Kamil Mishara has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the upcoming Zimbabwe ODI series, the Lankadeepa reported.

Sri Lanka is set to take on Zimbabwe in a 3-match ODI series from Sunday (16) at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy.

A senior official of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said Mishara, who is a newcomer to the team, had shown symptoms of the virus due to which he was subjected to a PCR test.

He further said the PCR test result had returned positive affirming that the cricketer had contracted the virus.

The SLC official said Kamil Mishara has been isolated in his room and as he had been isolated a few days ago he had not come in contact with the other cricketers in the national squad.

He added that measures will be taken to send Mishara to a quarantine centre in the coming days.

Several Sri Lankan cricketers had contracted COVID-19 ahead of the Zimbabwe Series.

Sri Lankan cricketers Janith Liyanage and Avishka Gunawardena had earlier tested positive and have been ruled out of the cricket series.

ODI skipper Dasun Shanaka recently recovered from COVID-19 and is set to lead the 18- member national team against Zimbabwe. Dushmantha Chameera has also recovered from Covid.

Meanwhile, the head coach of Zimbabwe Lalchand Rajput had also tested positive for COVID-19 following his arrival in Sri Lanka for the series. (NewsWire)
