Mid-air mishap : Russian injured in Deltota

A Russian national who had gone paragliding from the Kondagala cliff at the Loolkandura estate in Deltota has sustained serious injuries after his parachute had malfunctioned midair.

The Police said the man had sustained serious injuries due to the fall caused as a result of the malfunction in his parachute and has been admitted to the Peradeniya General Hospital.

The Kondagala cliff at the Loolkandura estate is a popular spot for paragliding with several local and foreign tourists visiting the location often.

The Russian is reported to have gone paragliding around 03.00 pm yesterday (12) during which his parachute had malfunctioned in the lower part of the drop.

Following the malfunction, the Russian had fallen onto a tree where his parachute had gotten tangled. Thereafter, the branch of the tree had broken off resulting in him falling further and injuring himself.

Area residents who had witnessed the scene had immediately informed the 1990 free ambulance service, which had transported the injured tourist to the Peradeniya General Hospital.

It has been reported that the Russian has sustained serious injuries to his spine and legs in the incident. (NewsWire)
