Police identify chief suspects involved in seized 300kg heroin haul

The Police have traced out the chief suspects involved in the trafficking of the large haul of heroin that was seized off the Southern Coast on Monday (24).

Eleven (11) suspects in two trawlers were arrested along with 300 kilos of heroin during a special operation conducted jointly by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Sri Lanka Navy.

Following interrogations of the suspects, it had been revealed that three key suspects currently in hiding in Dubai had operated the drug smuggling from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The three chief suspects have been identified as Nadun Chinthaka aka Harak Kata, Charith Sandakelum aka Ran Malli, and Diwan Pasindu aka Jothi.

Meanwhile, the suspects along with the seized stock of heroin were brought to the Colombo Port yesterday.

Defence Secretary retired Gen.Kamal Gunaratne, Navy Commander Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, and Police Narcotics Bureau officials inspected the contraband.

Following this, the Defence Secretary questioned the suspects who were arrested over the incident. (NewsWire)
