Power crisis: CEB chairman resigns

M.M. C. Ferdinando who was recently appointed as the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced his resignation from his post and as a member of the CEB. 

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Ferdinando said he will step down as the Chairman and member of the CEB with effect from the 1st of February 2022. 

Ferdinando further revealed that he had taken a decision to resign due to personal reasons.

Meanwhile, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has intervened to resolve the dispute over the appointment of a new General Manager to the CEB.

The CEB Engineers Union had strongly objected to the appointment of Acting General Manager Dr. Sustantha Perera as the General Manager, calling it illegal. 

Thereafter, President Rajapaksa intervened and appointed Additional General Manager (Corporate Strategy), Eng. (Dr.) D.C.R. Abeysekera of the Corporate Strategy Division as the new General Manager of the CEB.  (NewsWire)
