LTTE’s Daya Master given two-year suspended sentence

A two-year suspended sentence has been issued to former LTTE spokesman Daya Master alias Velayudam Dayanidhi by the Vavuniya High Court yesterday (26). 

Vavuniya High Court Judge Manikkavasagar Ilanchelian sentenced Daya Master to two years in prison suspended for a period of five years on charges of aiding and abetting the uprising of the LTTE.

Appearing for Daya Master in the High Court, Attorney M. A. Sumanthiran said the suspect pleads guilty to the charges and accepts that he served the LTTE for a monthly salary.

The Attorney General had filed a case against Daya Master in October 2018 on the grounds that he had committed an offense punishable under the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 7 of 2006 and the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 7 of 2006.

Taking into consideration the facts, the judge sentenced Daya Master to two years imprisonment with five years suspended imprisonment.

The former LTTE media spokesman is among the several individuals who surrendered to the Army during the final days of the war. (NewsWire)
