Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has clarified why cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa was not selected for the upcoming tour of Australia.
A senior SLC official told NewsWire that Bhanuka Rajapaksa is yet to undergo the necessary fitness tests to represent Sri Lanka.
He said Bhanuka is set to undergo the fitness tests targeting a return to the squad for the T20I series against India, which will take place following the Australia series.
Meanwhile, SLC CEO Ashley de Silva told NewsWire that Sri Lanka has made a request from India to commence the series with the T20Is rather than the Test matches.
According to the current schedule of the series, the Test matches are set to take place in India by late February.
Ashley de Silva said India has been requested to reschedule the T20I series in order to allow the Sri Lankan cricketers to return from Australia after completing the T20I series and head straight into the T20I series with India.
Stating that Sri Lanka has received a favourable response from India, the SLC said they hope that India will make an announcement in this regard soon. (NewsWire)
