No Sri Lankan killed: SLBFE denies Qatar media reports

Investigations have confirmed that a man who was recently shot dead in Doha, Qatar is not a Sri Lankan migrant worker, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has revealed. 

State Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion Piyankara Jayaratne’s attention had been drawn to the incident following several reports on the state’s local media.

Thereby, the State Minister had informed the Labour Division of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar to inquire into the incident. 

Chief of the Labour Division of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar attorney-at-law Keerthi Muthukumarana had thereafter verified with the area Police in this regard. 

The Qatar Police had informed that the man killed in the incident was not a Sri Lanka, adding that the body with gun injuries shown at the hospital did not belong to a Sri Lankan. (NewsWire)
