Major blow for power generation as 3rd generator at Norochcholai breaks down again

One of the generators at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant has malfunctioned, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced. 

The CEB Spokesperson said the third generator at the Lakvijaya power plant in Norochcholai has been deactivated again due to a technical fault.

Stating that the generator was rectified yesterday (31), he said it had been thereafter added to the National Grid.

The CEB Spokesperson added that the National Grid will lose 270 MW of power as a result of the malfunction.

The CEB announced yesterday (31) that the third generator of the Lakvijaya Power Plant which had earlier broken down had been fixed. 

Meanwhile, sources from the CEB have warned that power cuts may be imposed as a result of the generator malfunctioning at Norochcholai. 

They further said that a decision with regard to scheduled power cuts will be announced soon. (NewsWire)
