Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha De Silva has published the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) response to Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s request for advice on Sri Lanka’s economy.

Earlier it was reported, that Minister Rajapaksa had said yesterday that Sri Lanka has informed the IMF in writing to provide experts’ advice on the current economic situation of Sri Lanka.

He had further said that Sri Lanka expects IMF representatives to visit the country soon.

Clarifying the Finance Minister’s statement, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Ajith Nivard Cabraal said the Finance Minister’s comments were only on seeking routine technical assistance for the newly established Macro-Fiscal Unit at the Finance Ministry.

SJB MP Harsha De Silva has published on social media the IMF’s response to the Finance Minister’s request.

In its letter, the IMF says “the IMF Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) jointly with the South Asian Training and Technical Assistance Centre (SARTTAC) will be able to positively respond to the Finance Minister’s request.” (NewsWire)
