Ragama attack : State Minister’s son arrested

State Minister Arundika Fernando’s son has surrendered to the Ragama Police Station over his involvement in the assault on the students from the Ragama Medical Faculty. 

Four students attached to the Medical Faculty of the University of Kelaniya situated in Ragama were injured after being assaulted at the faculty hostel by a group of outsiders early last morning (02).  

The Police said following a clash between two student groups, a group of 15 individuals from outside had engaged in the brawl in support of one student group. 

Lankadeepa reported that one suspect had been identified as the driver of a State Minister and was arrested in connection to the incident, while an official Government vehicle had also been taken into Police custody. 

State Minister Arundika Fernando’s 23-year-old son was arrested after he had surrendered to the Ragama Police station through his lawyers last night over his involvement in the assault. 

The Police said a total of 07 suspects have been arrested so far in connection to the incident. 

The suspects are to be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court for an identification parade. 

Meanwhile, the group, including State Minister Arundika Fernando’s son, has been remanded till the 7th of February by the Wattala Magistrate’s Court.
