A Ukrainian couple is reported to have encountered a wild elephant attack near the 38th KM post on the Polonnaruwa- Habarana Road in Minneriya.
The Police said the foreign couple had been travelling in a Wagon R car when they had come under attack by the wild elephant yesterday.
The vehicle that was travelling towards Polonnaruwa had stopped by the side of the road after the elephant had appeared on the other side of the road.
The couple had taken pictures of the elephant after which the animal had approached the car and had started attacking the vehicle.
The couple had survived unhurt after running away from the vehicle, while the vehicle had been severely damaged by the elephant.
The driver of a tipper truck had thereafter managed to chase away the elephant into the jungle.
The Ukrainian couple had then been transported to their accommodation while the Minneriya Police had recovered the damaged vehicle. (NewsWire)
