Panadura ambulance shooting attempt : More details revealed as victim also arrested

The driver of the ambulance which was involved in an attempted shooting incident in Panadura recently has been arrested by the Kalutara Police Crimes Division today.

A group of four men on two motorcycles had attempted to open fire at the ambulance driver while he was transporting a pregnant woman to the Panadura Base Hospital on 27th January.

Several Police teams had been appointed to conduct an investigation into the matter during which the driver of the ambulance had been interrogated and later arrested.

It has been found that the suspect had been engaged in drug peddling for over a year and had sold over 100kilos of drugs in several areas.

Two suspects who had attempted to open fire at the ambulance driver have also been arrested.

The Police have seized an internationally manufactured hand grenade and 10 grams of heroin from one suspect’s possesion.

Several bank books, over Rs. 100,000 in cash and a mobile phone used for drug peddling were seized from the other suspect.

The Police are taking measures to present the suspects before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court today and to obtain a detention order for 07 days to investigate. (NewsWire)
