Police are taking measures to strictly enforce the law against drivers who obstruct pavements.
IGP C.D. Wickramaratne has directed all police stations to take legal action against vehicles for driving/ Parking on pavements, Parking by specialized service vehicles for loading/unloading good and obstructing the pavement by loading or unloading good on the pavement.
Accordingly, the IGP has instructed all police stations to initially warn the drivers who break the law for the first two weeks and to enforce the law from thereon.
Action will be taken against drivers violating the law under the Motor Traffic Act, the National Highways Act, The Penal Code and the Public Property Act. (NewsWire)
