Ruwanpura Expressway : Construction update

The project office for the Ruwanpura Expressway has informed the Ratnapura District Coordinating Committee that surveying activities have begun to select the most suitable road out of 6 options to construct the stretch from Ingiriya to Pelmadulla.

The 1st stage of the Ruwanpura Expressway, the 25km stretch from Kahathuduwa to Ingirya is expected to be completed by 2023. MAGA Engineering (Pvt) Limited has undertaken the construction of the 1st stage of this highway project.

The Road Development Authority, the Universities of Moratuwa and Peradeniya, the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation along with the Industrial Technology Institute are currently engaged in selecting the most suitable stretch of land to construct the expressway section from Ingiriya to Pelmadulla.

The Ruwanpura Expressway will begin from the Kahathuduwa exchange of the Southern Expressway. The first stage will include two exists, one at Horana and the other at Ingiriya.

The second phase is a 19km stretch from Ingirya to Gorakaela, with an exit that is planned to be built at Kiriella.

The third phase from Gorakaela to Pelmadulla will be a distance of 32.2 kms with exits planned at Kuruwita, Ratnapura, and Pelmadulla. The total distance of the Ruwanpura expressway will be 76.4 kilometers. (NewsWire)
