ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit Coordinator of Investigations, Steve Richardson has commended Sri Lanka’s new move to regulate/ register player managers.

“Another good initiative by Sri Lanka to regulate player managers and agents. There are too many of them who do not have player interests at heart” Richardson said in a tweet today.

“We see corruptors using it as a route into players, telling them they can act as their agent. Registered agents protect players!” He went on to say commenting on an article.

According to the Sunday Time newspaper, following allegations that some player managers had “a field day” during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) player draft, the Sports Ministry has decided to draft regulatory framework to register player agents in Sri Lanka.

This means National Sports Associations (NSAs) listed with the Ministry of Sports, including Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), must introduce an accreditation and registration system for all player managers, conduct background checks and impose the same code of conduct, anti-corruption and anti-doping conformity on them as players.
