A 40-year-old woman has been arrested for the possession of 1.64 kgs of heroin in Kalubowila.
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the woman had been arrested by the Police Special Task Force (STF) following a special raid conducted last evening.
The arrested woman has been identified as Sumedha Samanmali alias “Poosi”, the wife of drug trafficker ‘Army Indika’.
SSP Thalduwa said preliminary investigations have revealed that the woman and her husband had been engaged in drug peddling.
Stating that her husband is employed as the driver of a bus, the Police spokesman said it is suspected that the man had used his employment as a bus driver to transport the drugs.
He further said that the Police also suspect that the drug operation is being orchestrated by some people residing overseas.
SSP Thalduwa added that the woman and the seized stock of heroin have been handed over to the Police Anti-Narcotics Unit for further investigations. (NewsWire)
