The church worker who was apprehended and detained over the incident where a hand grenade was found in the premises of the All Saints Church in Borella, has been released without any charges.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered to release Francis Munindran today.

The Archbishop, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith had continuously demanded for the release of the church worker as he had nothing to do with the hand grenade incident at the All Saints Church in Borella.

Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara at the time of the arrest said that the church worker was arrested as the box of matches that was in the worker’s possession had lost a few matchsticks.

Meanwhile, the son of the arrested main suspect Dr Shirley Herath has written to the United Nations over the unfair detention of his father.

“Ma’am @mbachelet my father (75yrs) is now detained for 22 days without proper lawyer access. My father’s matter is best example of abuse of PTA law by police. Bringing minor amendments to the act won’t prevent abuse of said law. Our family is worried for his life” Oshala Herath said.
