Power cuts: Update from CEB

February 10, 2022 at 9:48 AM

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) says it expects that the power supply will not be disrupted in any areas in the country today.

CEB Secretary Wasantha Perera said the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has agreed to provide the necessary fuel to the CEB to generate power.

However, due to a rise in world crude prices, there is a possibility for future fuel supplies to be restricted.

Thereby, the CEB has commenced intense discussions with several other parties on providing the uninterrupted power supply, he revealed.

The CEB Secretary further called on the public to use electricity sparingly in order to help prevent power disruptions.

The public has been urged to use electricity sparing especially during peak hours from 06.00 pm- 10.00 pm.

Stating that scheduled power cuts will not be imposed, Wasantha Perera said, however, power cuts due to maintenance work and due to sudden breakdowns cannot be prevented. (NewsWire)
