Six fatal accidents reported in the last 12-hours

Six fatal accidents have been reported in Sri Lanka in the last 12-hours ending at 06 am today. 

A 52-year-old woman on a bicycle has died after a lorry had crashed into her near the Akkaravelliya bridge in Mundhalama last afternoon. 

The woman who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died upon admission to the Mudhalama Hospital. The driver of the lorry has been arrested on charges of reckless driving, while the Mundhalama Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. 

A 21-year-old motorcyclist has died after crashing into a van while overtaking a bus in the Thalamehara area on the Pannala- Giriulla Road last evening. 

The motorcyclist and pillion rider who had sustained injuries in the accident had been admitted to the Sandalanka Hospital after which the motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries. 

Investigations have revealed that the reckless driving of both the van driver and motorcyclist had caused the accident. The Pannala Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.

A 78-year-old man on a bicycle has died after a bus had struck him from behind in Nedunkerni Town last morning. 

The man who had sustained serious injuries had been admitted to the Nedunkerni Hospital and had succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to the Vavuniya Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the bus has been arrested for reckless driving, while the Nedunkerni Police is conducting further investigations. 

A 37-year-old man has died after being struck by a car on the pedestrian crossing in the Ganegoda area in Narammala last night. 

The victim who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died upon admission to the Kurunegala Hospital. The Narammala Police have commenced an investigation to apprehend the driver of the car who is reported to have fled the area following the accident. 

A 65-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by a motorcycle near the Halpe School in Ella last evening. 

The victim with serious injuries had died after being admitted to the Demodara Hospital. Investigations have revealed that the motorcyclist had lost control of the vehicle and had crashed onto the pedestrian. The motorcyclist has been arrested in connection to the accident, while the Ella Police is conducting further investigations.

A 41- year-old man has died following a head-on collision between two motorcycles at the Bulnewa Junction in the Galnewa area last night. 

The two injured motorcyclists had been admitted to the Galnewa Hospital after which one motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries. The other injured motorcyclist has been transferred to the Anuradhapura Hospital for further treatment. The Galnewa Police is conducting investigations into the accident. (NewsWire)
