The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has announced it will stage a one-day token strike on Monday, the 21st of February.

The Association said the strike will be launched against efforts to arbitrarily increase salaries based on demands of trade unions without holding discussions with the Salaries and Cadre Commission.

The trade union action that was launched by nearly 18 health workers’ trade unions over several demands, including salary-related issues had been temporarily suspended for 14-days from yesterday.

The decision was taken following a discussion that was held on the minutes of the discussion with the Health Minister that was held on Monday (14).

Meanwhile, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, today advised the relevant authorities to consider the demands of the nurses in consultation with the Finance Ministry, without impacting the entire public service.

“Health care services, including medicine and nursing, are highly valued. Understanding the financial situation in the country, take steps to provide approved nurses’ issues in a manner that does not affect the entire public service,” the President said during a discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat at the request of the Public Service United Nurses Association.
