Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara’s lawyer has questioned the injustice faced by his client for being detained under charges that have been failed to be proven in court.

Former IGP Jayasundara was acquitted and released from the 855 charges that had been levelled against him over the failure to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Upon Jayasundara’s release, his lawyer, Attorney-at-Law Roshan Dehiwala told reporters today that his client had been remanded for over 04-months over the charges filed against him.

He said that in addition, his client had also lost the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) due to the charges levelled against him.

Even though Jayasundara has been released today, his lawyer questioned as to who will take responsibility for the period he spent in remand custody and the loss of a high-ranking Government post.

Attorney-at-Law Roshan Dehiwala pointed out that if charges are not filed properly, similar unfair incidents will repeat in the future as well. (NewsWire)
