The Kollupitiya Police have used an interesting tactic to apprehend a suspect accused of robbing Rs. 1.1 million from a private hospital in Colombo 3.

In October 2021, the suspect who had come with several other persons for a renovation work at the private hospital, had broken into a safe with a hammer and stolen the aforementioned money inside it.

The 28-year-old suspect who has been absconding since October last year, was tricked by the police using a ‘Love Trap’ with the help of a female police constable.

Accordingly, the female constable had been instructed to build a relationship over the phone and she had successfully tricked the suspect to come to Pettah area to meet up.

Police teams have then managed to apprehend the suspect when he came to meet his ‘fake’ lover. At the time of his arrest, the suspect has had Rs. 275,000 in his possession.

Following further questioning, the suspect had also revealed that he had bought household appliances worth Rs. 150,000 for a lover in Kaduwala area. Those items have also been seized by the police.

Arrested suspect is to be produced to courts while police are conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
