The stepfather of a 13-year-old girl has been arrested for sexually molesting the teenager.
The Chillaw Police have arrested the 27-year-old suspect who is an employee of a coir factory.
The suspect’s wife and daughter have reportedly resided at the man’s quarters at the coir factory.
The child’s 36-year-old mother is also said to have been employed at the coir factory.
Investigations have revealed that upon the child’s father’s death, her mother had been involved in a romantic relationship with the suspect.
Based on a complaint lodged with the National Child Protection Authority an investigation had been launched leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The teenager had informed the Police that the man had sexually abused her from time to time since July last year.
The victim has been admitted to the Chillaw Hospital for a medical examination.
Meanwhile, the suspect will be produced before the Chilaw Magistrate’s Court. (NewsWire)
