The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory for the shallow and deep-sea areas off the North and East coasts of Sri Lanka.
Issuing a statement, the department said the well-marked low-pressure area over the South-West Bay of Bengal and adjoining South-East Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression.
It is located nearly 470km to the South-East of the Trincomalee coast and is very likely to intensify into a deep depression within the next 24-hours, it added.
The Naval and fishing communities have been urged to remain vigilant and refrain from venturing into the sea during this period. (NewsWire)
