Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has denied accusations that he was behind the motorcycle-vehicle road rally that was held on the Colombo-Puttalam road today.
“No assistance was given by the Hon. Minister Namal Rajapaksa or the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the cycling competition held in Kalpitiya today. It has been organized by a private entity which has no affiliation with the Ministry of Sports,” the Sports Minister’s media unit said.
The rally which had been organised with Police permission faced several protests from the general public accusing them of dangerous driving and wasting fuel without considering the country’s situation.
The event organizers said they had organised the rally as part of a charity donation.
