Five proposals from advisory committee to National Economic Council

The 16-member Advisory Committee that was appointed to advise the National Economic Council has tabled five proposals. 

On 15th March, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed an Advisory Committee to advise the newly appointed National Economic Council.

The Advisory Committee has tabled five proposals to the National Economic Council pertaining to reviving the economy.

The proposals are as follows:

  1. Appoint a technical committee consisting of officials from both the Central Bank and the Treasury to propose international financial assistance.
  2. Appoint a Financial Advisor and a Legal Advisor. 
  3. The Technical Committee must immediately submit a restructuring programme pertaining to international financial assistance.
  4. Appoint a group of experts to coordinate with the Finance Minister. 
  5. Focus attention on getting rid of supply issues and work on rebuilding credibility.
