The President’s Office has denied social media reports claiming that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is currently considering resigning from his post.
The President’s Spokesman Kingsly Rathnayake told NewsWire the President is not a man who would flee at a time of a serious crisis.
He further said the President is currently focused on addressing the various issues that are being faced by the nation.
Rathnayake said the rumours are being spread by certain groups in order to further destabilize the country.
The statement comes following several reports being circulated on social media platforms claiming that the President is considering resigning.
Meanwhile, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is reported to have called for a meeting with all the Government MPs tomorrow (22).
The meeting has been organized to discuss the current economic crisis and the future course of action.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is also set to hold an all-party conference on Wednesday, the 23rd of March.
