Imprisoned former MP and popular actor Ranjan Ramanayake has won the People’s actor award at the SLIM People’s Awards 2022 held in Colombo last night.
Ranjan has won the People’s actor award many times but this time it was special as the actor won the award while being in prison for more than 14 months now.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is yet to respond to appeals made by the Opposition and International Parliamentary Union to grant a presidential pardon to release former MP Ramanayake.
The matter was also raised at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya. (NewsWire)
