A tense situation was reported in the Rathgama area today with residents protesting over the lack of gas cylinders.
The area residents had staged a protest outside the gas distribution centre blocking the main road with gas cylinders.
Stating that they had been standing in queue to obtain gas since last night, they claimed that gas cylinders had not been distributed today.
The Police Special Task Force (STF) was also deployed to contain the situation.
Following a telephone conversation with relevant authorities in the presence of the area Police Officer-in-Charge (OIC) assurance was given to the residents to provide necessary stocks of gas by Friday.
Upon receiving the assurance, the area residents called off the protest and dispersed. (NewsWire)
