Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) lawmaker and MP, Wijedasa Rajapakshe has decided to present the 21st Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka as a Private Members Bill.

MP Rajapakshe is considering tabling the 21st Amendment to abolish the Presidency in a bid to find a solution to existing crises of the nation.

“If we have to find a solution to existing crises, the first and foremost option is to have the executive powers in governance transferred to the Cabinet of Ministers by way of an urgent constitutional reform making them responsible to the Parliament and the people,” MP Wijedasa Rajapakshe said.

He further said under the constitutional amendment, the powers, functions, and duties vested in the President by the Constitution, Statutes, Rules, Regulations, or otherwise for the purpose exercising executive powers, functions, and duties of the President shall be exercised by him on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Following is the proposal by MP Wijedasa Rajapakshe for the resurrection of the sunken economy and restoration of the diminished democratic principle:  21st Amendment – Wijedasa Rajapakshe
