An issue with the electricity transmission line has forced authorities to impose longer power cuts in the Southern Province than in other areas, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has revealed.

Speaking during an interview, PUCSL Chairman Janaka Rathnayake said that the CEB is unable to generate power in Colombo and transmit it to the Southern Province due to this issue.

He said thereby, the authorities are forced to impose longer power cuts in the Southern Province in comparison to other areas.

Stating that it was an injustice to the residents of the Southern Province, Rathnayake said measures are being taken to rectify this situation.

The PUCSL Chairman said in a bid to rectify this issue, power units are purchased from private power stations and supplied to the Southern Province. (NewsWire)
